Museu Etnogràfic d'Eivissa – Can Ros

  • Santa Eulària des Riu

Can Ros, an example of popular architecture, houses a museum specialising in local material culture, and displays both the characteristic elements of the house and the everyday objects of peasant and artisan life.

It is an old peasant dwelling that houses a museum of local material culture. It combines a permanent exhibition of farming and fishing implements, clothing, jewellery, domestic objects, trade tools, carts, popular musical instruments, etc. with temporary exhibitions. It also has a library and a video library on ethnographic themes and organises craft workshops open to the public and others of a didactic nature; it also organises socio-cultural activities (Summer Nights, Museum Saturdays, etc.).

The house and the museum complement each other very well. The house was restored and refurbished by the architect Joan Prats Bonet, adding a building to house the parts of an old "trull" (or oil mill), so that the visitor is offered a good example of a popular rural dwelling with its characteristic elements: main hall ("porxo"), kitchen, rooms ("cases de dormir"), oil mill, balcony ("porxet" superior), well and cistern.
