Jesús

The current town grew up in the shadow of the small church, built by the Franciscans at the end of the 15th century and with numerous later additions. Although it can currently be understood as being within the centre of Jesús, it was originally used for worship by fishermen residing outside the walls of the city of Ibiza. It preserves the altarpiece depicting the birth of Mary, a work by the Osonas, a jewel of the so-called international style of transition between Gothic and Renaissance painting. It has a side porch. At its western end, the main door leads directly into the interior. Past this, there is the choir, a wooden platform. On each side of the nave there are three chapels, all of them small in dimension with the exception of the sunken chapel, which is near the presbytery.
