An ISO 14001 environmental management system is an instrument that allows the management of the environmental impacts that an organisation produces on the environment.
The certification of beaches according to the ISO 14001 standard implies the planning and implementation of an environmental policy that includes a commitment to continuous improvement and pollution prevention, as well as a commitment to comply with current environmental legislation and regulations. This certification is granted by a certifying entity and compliance is subject to periodic audits.
¿What are the advantages of implementing ISO 14001?
- Compliance with environmental legislation
- Improving the image of the organisation
- Long-term cost savings
- Improving business processes
- Avoiding sanctions
- Environmental risk reduction
- Improving internal and external relations
Waste management
The ISO 14001 certified beaches, as well as the rest of the beaches in the municipality, have several selective MSW collection points, which allows the following waste fractions to be collected separately.
Packaging, which represents the majority of the waste collected and which must be deposited in the yellow containers, paper and cardboard, which must be deposited in the blue containers, glass in the green containers and organic waste, which must be deposited in the grey containers.
Water quality
The Conselleria de Sanitat analyses the water of the beaches on a monthly basis, obtaining very satisfactory results. (check bathing water quality here)
The Santa Eulalia Town Council also has the service of an external laboratory that analyses the quality of the sand on the beaches.
Analyses are also carried out on the water in the fountains of the Santa Eulalia promenade and the showers on the beaches.
Beach cleaning
The cleaning and maintenance of Santa Eulalia's beaches is, without a doubt, one of the fundamental elements of the management of these spaces. Throughout the year, the Town Council, in collaboration with other agents, carries out cleaning and maintenance work on the beaches and the promenade.
The beach cleaning system is organised according to the number of users, so the frequency and human and material resources are more numerous during the bathing season.
The aim of the work is to maintain the quality of the sand and water, the beach environment and the facilities for waste collection (containers) and user hygiene (showers and toilets).
Security
The beaches of Santa Eulalia del Río have a lifeguard and rescue service that is also certified by an Environmental Management System based on the ISO 14001 standard.
The implementation of this certification in the lifeguard and rescue service has given a boost to the process of implementing the Management System on the beaches of Santa Eulalia.
User satisfaction
In order to find out the satisfaction of the users of the beaches of Santa Eulalia, surveys are carried out on the different beach services.
These surveys assess aspects related to the cleanliness of the bathing water, sand cleanliness, beach equipment, beach access, general beach cleanliness, etc.
These surveys also collect suggestions for improvement and comments that help us to continue working to achieve complete user satisfaction.
