This week work began on the works for the pacification and pedestrianization of the Es Canar Promenade, some works demanded by the neighbours to revitalize and make this area more pleasant for mature tourist walkers area in the municipality of Santa Eulària des Riu. The work is starting now after having held meetings with the neighbours and having agreed to postpone the work until after the tourist season, so as not to interfere with the time of year when there is more economic activity and job creation, in addition to the one with the largest population in the area.
The renovation and pedestrianization project aims to transform this space, making it more attractive for the enjoyment of the citizens of the area as well as the many tourists who visit it. It is proposed to act in an area of about 300 linear meters from the avenues Es Canar and Punta Arabí, between the intersections with the streets Pou des Lleó and Pou d'en Cardona.
The intention is to remove a large part of the road traffic from this area, leaving only the access allowed to emergency vehicles and those necessary supplies or services. Thus, an eminently pedestrian space is proposed, oriented towards the walk and which constitutes an unbeatable point to act as a viewpoint over the small bay of es Canar.
The action also makes it possible to improve accessibility. Thus, although there are different areas, they will all be found on a platform at a single level. The intervention will also serve to renew public lighting, the creation of about thirty planter benches and the underground rainwater collection, sewage and electricity supply services will be renewed and reinforced. The planned execution period for the works is five months and the budget exceeds one million euros.
This intervention is accompanied by a work to execute a storm tank with a budget of almost 300,000 euros. This action, assigned to the company Vilor, aims to avoid the risk of affecting the marine environment due to the discharge of rainwater in the surroundings of the beach and port of es Canar.
Such platform allows water to be separated from solid remains, grease and other elements so that the fluid that is discharged into the sea will be of higher environmental quality. In addition, the water deposit point has been moved a few meters into the sea so that it can affect bathing areas less.
